ECS EP24 - Yelawolf
Yelawolf is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer born in Gadsden, AL and raised in Antioch, TN who has developed a cult-like following since releasing his first album in 2005. His music and his movement "Slumerican" encapsulate what he calls "the people who are the core of America."
Ed Clay and Yelawolf sit down to talk about the long journey to stardom for Yelawolf from trailer parks to selling out stages. Yelawolf was nearly 30 years old before he got his first record deal and he shares how persistence and faith in the long run is necessary if someone wants to be successful.
Meeting Eminem and signing to Shady Records was a huge milestone in Wolf's journey and listeners get to hear some of the behind the scenes stories as to how that came to fruition. Overcoming adversity and learning to block out the haters is a reoccurring theme in Wolf's journey from the trenches to where he is now. We even take a deep dive into Yelawolf's mind and hear some of his perspectives on things like the spiritual world, karma, psychedelics, and introspection. Wolf shares how doing things that scare him spark creativity and inspiration and how he takes fear head-on.
Yelawolf's new double-album War Story drops June 7th and, in Wolf's words, is "by far my best hip-hop project." Following Wolf's 2022 Rock album Sometimes Y, War Story reunites the team that produced Love Story from 2015 and brings Slumerican fans back to the hip-hop roots that Yelawolf has cultivated over the years.
