I have risen From the Ashes Like a
0:05
Phoenix you know moving forward are you nervous about slipping up no I'm not because every time I got out of
0:12
treatment I already knew that I was going to go right back to it and I already knew that I wanted to do it knowing that it's bad because I didn't
0:19
have any reason to not now that I have skating back I don't want to screw that up I don't want to screw up my
0:25
relationship with Danny because if I even relapse once my dick will be chopped off it'll be thrown in the river
0:31
and she'll be long gone don't need that and for the sake of my son Phoenix who's 6 years old yeah he's the main reason
0:38
you've overcome a lot man there's like so many different Heroes Journeys in your story and I know it's inspired a
0:45
lot of people now I want to prove to myself and to the people that if you lost hope and you don't think that you
0:51
can change or get better it's never too late rock and
0:56
roll bam marera how you doing welcome to the podcast yeah man man so uh thanks for coming out
1:02
on short notice um I was told we had the opportunity to interview you and like man hell yeah that would be uh
1:09
incredible so thanks for coming by yeah I mean we've been ever since I met uh my girlfriend Danny she's a stretch coach
1:16
we've been on the road for the past eight months maybe home Philadelphia Castle bam for like less than a week but
1:23
all all in all we've been traveling in a purple Bentley with two dogs and we've been to pretty much at least 12 states
1:30
by now what have you been doing the traveling um well now that see this is
1:36
what happened in 2013 I gave up all hope because the doctor officially said my
1:42
legs were like dry rotted rubber bands from alcohol abuse and good luck trying to skateboard again which made me leave
1:48
with a [ __ ] Gatorade and vodka it only made me drink more so at 250 PBS I
1:54
was just I [ __ ] gave the [ __ ] or can you cost so I gave up and um and then
2:01
when I met her she said I'm a stretch coach and I will stretch you an hour a day and don't listen to him you'll be
2:08
able to skate again and all it took was like a month of every day I started to
2:14
like Mega notice and then once I started skateboarding again I instantly got my muscle memory back which I haven't got
2:20
back in 10 years so now my passion is back to skateboard all I want to do is
2:26
that so um I was having an issue you with my house I kind of leased it to my
2:32
brother because I did the longest Florida Shuffle 2 years which if you don't know what this is it means that
2:38
when an interventionist knows that you have good insurance they will find reasons to keep you in treatment for
2:44
eternity so when I got out he still had a couple months um of living in there so
2:50
I was like let's just hit the road and go from skate spot to skate spot visit friends and she saves dogs so there's
2:57
been quite a few times where I was at the skate park she'd see an abandoned dog across the street and go rescue it
3:03
meaning like put it in a shelter or dogs in shelters she finds homes for so how
3:09
long have you been back uh skating um I've been back for a solid eight months
3:15
now yeah um I was kind of forced to take it's funny because when jackass 4 was
3:21
happening I signed a contract that they wanted me off alcohol and Aderall which I've been prescribed to for 13 years
3:28
when I go in the tree treat M which I had to pay for they put me on 18 different medications like biopron
3:36
propanalol Zyprexa Luda lithium um trazadone crail everything you can
3:43
imagine to the point where I couldn't even cry or come like I had no emotions whatsoever and there's all the side
3:50
effects left left to stiff muscle so I couldn't skate weight gain so I extra couldn't skate I was top heavy and off
3:55
balance and who who wants to basically try any trick over a pyramid holding two
4:01
20 lb weights in your hand if not more and when I left I was 250 but it all
4:06
left a weight gain stiff muscles erectile dysfunction hair loss and Suicidal Tendencies which I was getting
4:12
and if I stop taking the medication then I don't get the $5 million for the movie that I usually get so when I stopped
4:17
taking it like you stopped taking your medication you broke your contract yeah what's the point of getting $5 million
4:23
if I'm dead yeah well so you've been uh you got out of rehab what you said eight months ago yeah so you started skating
4:31
you got off like uh certain meds um what's it been like being sober and
4:36
getting back you know back into it um the only thing that I had overcome is um
4:43
boredom when when when I'm bored I look across the street I see an Irish pub and people cracking jokes I'm like I'll just
4:49
do that all day so when I cured boredom Danny has showed me structure which
4:55
treatments they treatments have their own way and it doesn't work for me it might work for other people hallelujah
5:00
but not for me I need all I need was structure I need to wake up knowing that I'm walking the dogs today and if they
5:07
don't eat then I don't eat and if I'm hungry I better feed them you know like having these two dogs like it it makes
5:13
me have something to take care of because at one point I couldn't even take care of myself then we would stretch then I would find a skate spot I
5:20
would skate she would take the photo I have taught her to be a professional Thrasher photographer believe me that's
5:27
awesome and then when we're done that then I usually we find like antique stores we like that or you know like
5:33
oldfashioned jewelry vintage clothes mom and pop coffee shops waterfalls
5:38
beautiful scenery hiking and then we get some dinner and I either paint read or write or whatever or watch dat line but
5:45
I need a structured schedule knowing that I'm going as soon as she got me in bed it was like 10:00 I'm like man you
5:52
have tamed the Impala like what do you mean I'm like you've tamed the Impala why how what do you mean you have me in
5:59
bad at 10 this is unbelievable because I never had a boss I never had a 9 to5 I never had anybody
6:05
tell me what to do and I never had any place to be so if I'm super into editing I'll edit till the sun comes up if I'm
6:11
super into partying I'll party till the sun comes up if I'm super interested in painting a p picture I'll do it till the
6:17
sun comes up never had a structured schedule knowing that if I don't go to
6:23
bed now then it's going to interrupt the flow in my whole next day now what's it like you know cuz I had a opiate
6:30
addiction years ago from fighting I was a a professional fighter and trained professional fighters and so I was about
6:36
two years uh of taking opiates prescribed and you know went through the
6:42
withdrawal issues and did eyebow gain actually in um Mexico uh and been clean
6:49
now for gosh 15 years or so um but you know to me it was like my head was kind
6:55
of out of a out of a cloud all of a sudden yeah um is you know I know that they had a lot of different meds what's
7:00
it like now you know 6 Months 8 months sober uh when you when you look at things I would I would say that um it
7:08
was really scary because I was always so used to showing up whether it's a nightclub or even a buddy's house
7:15
already drunk or already sipping on a beer and that was my comfort zone and like if you weren't drinking with me I
7:21
would feel weird and if nobody was drinking I would even feel more weird but as soon as I overcome you know just
7:28
because I always want people to feel comfortable and I always think that if you give somebody a beer or a drink then
7:35
they loosen up and they get more comfortable and when there's no beer like people would offer me tea I'm like
7:40
tea are you kidding me no I don't need a cup of tea I'm going to drink in 5 seconds it's this big and there's no
7:46
alcohol in it you know but um now that I can see clearly I think for a while I
7:52
had so many terrible things going on in my life that I didn't want to remember
7:57
yeah you know what I mean like when you're in five different lawsuits and you have to hire Donald Trump's lawyer
8:02
to get you out of a pickle with your family that I say I'll put a bear trap on your foot knowing that I don't own
8:08
one and it's a terroristic death threat charge that I have to pay a lot of money to defend myself you know I don't have a
8:15
bear trap in even I put my hand in in one and Jackass 2 and it didn't even break so cool your jetpack and then on
8:22
top of that I custody battle and then another one some idiot showed up at my house when I was at a post Malone
8:27
concert and did a drunk and wheelie in my ex-wife's Range Rover and he's suing me because apparently I let him in drunk
8:35
and let him do that no I don't know who you are I have a gate I don't know who let you in but your idiot ass grabbed my
8:42
motorcycle without asking and did a wheelie into my ex-wife's Range Rover if anything you should be paying for the
8:48
damage of her car but no it's been an ongoing lawsuit then on top of that I
8:54
had three credit cards and I guess the max of them is 25 Grand because
9:00
one person was a a psychic Gypsy healer lady who found out my credit card I said
9:05
you could pay for gas for this one thing she racked up 25 Grand at like Walgreens
9:10
and Best Buy and whatever and then and then a stripper stole my other one and she racked up 20 grand at a nightclub in
9:17
one night which I I think is impossible how do you do that don't know who that car is but valet it don't know who that
9:23
car is but valet those guys those guys those guys just give them bottle service how do you rack up 20 grand nightclub
9:30
then my next credit card was a good friend in a bank called 616 who has an alcohol problem I told him he could pay
9:36
for his bill at Sun Studios for four grand with my card so when I gave it to him he gets all lared to [ __ ] up and
9:42
buys $20,000 worth of sunglasses and
9:48
jackets I'm like [ __ ] it come on can it get any worse so I checked into the sunset Marquee ready to check out if you
9:56
know what I mean I bought a whole bunch of drugs and I was I did not care if I would wake up the next day and I'm like
10:03
if I wake up [ __ ] and if I do God you better provide me the hottest eye candy
10:09
with a tan pitbull and eight cup tits because all my girlfriend frier they
10:15
always talk me into getting them boobs it would always be rock hard they say they'll sett down in a year and then a year would go by like they're still rock
10:21
hard don't even want to do nothing except titty [ __ ] your butt cheeks so when I woke up I was like [ __ ] I'm alive
10:28
go out to the the pool area SI on a um Bloody Mary and I over hear a girl uh saying listen I'm 43 I'm I'm Sicilian
10:35
and Irish born in New Jersey I'm like I was born in Philly I'm cilian Irish I'm 43 I'm like who are you she's like I'm a
10:42
stretch coach I'm like get over here that's exactly what I need we hit it off big time and then after talking for a
10:47
while she's like I got to go walk my dogs like dogs what kind of dogs I got a tan P I'm like thank
10:53
you that's awesome yes Michael the Archangel shot down the [ __ ] hottest girl to save save my life that's awesome
11:01
man that's awesome that was the Catalyst it was so what was it like you met yeah
11:08
your your girlfriend and then you went to rehab like directly after did she help you get in yeah well what happened
11:13
was when we met met in Los Angeles we really hit it off and we're spending every day together and I told her that
11:19
i' had to go back to Pennsylvania for a court case and I don't know what was going to happen MH so she flew with me
11:26
left the dogs in a kennel left the Bentley at The Lax parking lot thinking that we'd be right back well they
11:32
sentenced me to not be able to leave the state of Pennsylvania and I'm like your honor I live in Los Angeles now with her
11:39
we have two dogs boarded up and my car is parked at the airport he's like ain't my problem I'm like yeah it's my problem it's a huge one not to mention I leased
11:47
my castle bam out to my brother so I can't even go home so what do you want me to do just float around Pennsylvania
11:53
[ __ ] motel 6es near the [ __ ] airport you know like ain't my problem like why can't I my home is now La yeah
12:01
but you know we made the best of it and then that's when um Ed Duff the skateboarder he rides for Tony Ha
12:08
company birdhouse he uh his parents Pamela and Ed Edward uh own Duff
12:13
electric which powers like 10% of Philadelphia or whatever so they got 90 Acres of property all these properties
12:19
around the Bucks County area and um let us live in this really cool um
12:26
Greenhouse with all these crystals plants and uh sauna hot tub U ice pool
12:33
it's great I love it and um once I got my house back we didn't even want to go back I'm like let's just stay here at
12:39
the DS this is great it's in the middle of nowhere nobody bothers us there's 10
12:44
jackasses I feed carrots too in the morning that's awesome yeah and so you've been there for the last eight
12:50
months so you actually didn't go to rehab you went straight to there oh no so is what happened was when they sent me to Philadelphia they also said that I
12:57
had to do eight days in a detox or something when I think I had a beer 2
13:04
days prior I I forget what happened but when I checked in the detox they were like so what are you detoxing off most
13:09
people are like years and years of heroin and they sleep for a month I'm like a beer they're like when I'm like
13:16
last Wednesday they're like and that's it I'm like yeah and they're like well what are you even doing here I'm like
13:21
they're making me I don't know well how many days of detox did you going to think you're going to go through in that
13:27
room none so so the whole thing was dumb but she uh Danny flew back out grabbed
13:33
the dogs grabbed the Bentley out of the airport and started headed my way and we met just in the nick of time of me
13:39
getting out and then from there we decided to just hit the road to get away
13:45
from people that are after me like my guardian at lightam Lima she was after
13:51
me any little she was like basically praying that I would relapse just so she
13:57
could put me back to another treatment Center I don't know if she's getting Kickbacks or or some kind of benefit
14:03
from this but I went to 13 different [ __ ] places in Florida 90 days a
14:08
piece not to mention 200 days in Tucson Arizona it's like her answer to anything
14:14
is rehab rehab constantly rehab and put him on all this [ __ ] [ __ ] as soon as I got out I'm on nothing I've never been
14:21
more happy in my life because skateboarding is my medicine and [ __ ]
Bam Margera Stories from the Road and Future Plans
14:26
me so where where all have you gone to in that last six months so we went from Philly drove down to Florida to do
14:33
either comiccons or hardons or just look for skate spots or skate friends all day so we went down there to Orlando from
14:41
there we went to New Orleans and then when we got to Texas I to do another Comic-Con and then we met Black Rifle
14:47
Coffee Company Jared which I'm really into because people like Bucky LA and Travis pastr rod for him and they helped
14:54
the military because uh he's a veteran so um I get to his house skate ramps
14:59
everywhere there's an editing system a music studio a backyard pool ice plun on I'm like hell yeah so we posted up there
15:06
for like 2 months until we made our way uh to Matt Hoffman's house had to do another ComicCon in Albuquerque New
15:12
Mexico then we floated back to her hometown to Charleston South Carolina and hung out with her sister and Mom in
15:19
the Atlanta area and then Philly now back here now the mission continues cuz
15:25
I have another Comic-Con in corp krisky Texas then we go back Home San Juan
15:30
Puerto Rico back home Florida back home then Ireland wow that's a hell of a
15:37
schedule yeah but it's fun yeah I mean as long as you're having fun you know if you're like dreading the whole thing
15:43
then why bother but no we've been having a BL we've seen everything that's awesome yeah yeah so that's that's the
15:49
thing about work it's not really work if uh if you're having a great time true if you're enjoying it and and I've learned
15:54
to really at at first you know my manager would be like B you want to make 20 grand for an appearance I'm like no
16:01
he's like it's just an hour of signing stuff you don't want to make 20 grand in one hour I'm like no he's he's like why
16:06
I'm like cuz I don't want to appear anywhere I'm 2 [ __ ] 50 PBS I look like [ __ ] I don't need everybody in line
16:12
saying what happened to you you know and I got a secret beer under the [ __ ] table no but now you know I'm happy
16:20
skating again I'm happy doing what I'm doing I'm happy who I'm with I'm I'm stoked to do the signings you know
16:28
because I'm in a good mood yeah you're in a good place what's uh what's the
16:33
goal man like so you know you're like a you know it's like a a second life or
16:38
Another Life um what's what's the's the goal like I have risen from the [ __ ]
16:43
ashes Like a Phoenix to goddamn wolf because I had lost hope in myself
16:50
weighing that much my hair was pretty much gone you'll see this photo of me from a year ago that you wouldn't even
16:55
believe that this is back like it was just gone from all the pills that I was forced to take but um and then not being
17:02
able to skate and all the pills of recti fun you can't even [ __ ] can't even do anything fun so I was just over it I had
17:10
no plan and now that I could skate again Everything Has Changed now I want to prove to myself and to the people that
17:17
if you lost hope and you don't think that you can change or get better it's never too late because I'm doing tricks
17:25
now that I never could do when I was at my Prime when I was 20 you know what I mean like she has
17:31
stretched my legs back to 100% again now the options are endless and I want to keep skating I mean I [ __ ] tore my
17:38
ACL the other day cuz I found this ramp that was so rad in the middle of nowhere with Jake Wooten and I was like I got to
17:44
get something cool here of course my foot slips out the other one lands on the board takes off and then I bend it
17:50
backwards luckily it didn't break because I've been stretching every day and if that was the case I'd be [ __ ] but I'll be back in about two weeks
17:56
nothing to worry about just a bunch of bruising that's py [ __ ] that's good that's good uh if you need stem cells
18:01
let me know we can take care of you are you serious yeah we have the we're the largest manufacturer of mess and stem
18:07
cells in the world that's rad because Danny Way um everybody knows who Danny
18:12
Way is Guinness Book of World Records of longest and highest Air at the same time rock and roll but he went to Columbia
18:19
okay because he was so messed up that he has to get his [ __ ] world records of longest or most stem cells in his body
18:26
and he told me that that it has made him feel 100% back he had so many injuries
18:32
from all the crazy [ __ ] that he's done that that he was in the same situation as as me wondering if he'll be able to
18:39
skate again but he had to keep going back too it wasn't like it was a one time thing he back and forth to one time
18:45
thing yeah so Columbia they do great work it's bio accelerator there's a place in Panama and then us were cell
18:51
year performance Institute and so I guess we're technically the three competitors but you know everybody does really good work and um you know we'll
18:58
we'll hook up though if you ever need to you know to put some cells in you um because it will I mean if you got a torn
19:03
ACL yeah as long as something is still attached there's a good chance of doing it you would generally want to do it you
19:09
know as close to the injury as possible when the body still is going into to heal Etc that gives you a better chance
19:16
of of healing the injury um but uh yeah we can have our doctors look at it and see if we can't uh help that would be
19:22
cool yeah I um I leave to Texas tomorrow so I mean if we have time in the day that'll be great can hook yall up but uh
19:29
especially good you know my experience you know fighting and coaching I'm all
19:34
beat up from all the years uh you know and I mean you took way more of a
19:41
beating than I did actually watching your old stuff on jackass I mean it's like you've taken even more of a beating than you know than me or you know and
19:49
most MMA fighters but it's still good to have something like stem cells to go back to yeah to you know get a little
19:55
booster or you know uh lower the inflammation and uh accelerate the healing and you know
20:01
that's what we're we're really good at I almost think I could say this like all right we got Motocross that [ __ ] is
20:06
gnarly but they practice everything into a foam pit and get it wired until they could land it every try so that helps
20:14
them skate warning I think is the most dangerous [ __ ] sport ever because the options are endless of what you can
20:20
skate and you could hurt yourself in every which way you could rack your nutsack on a 13 stair handrail slide on
20:26
your face knock yourself out doing the loop hit your tailbone on a side of a ledge
20:32
you can get hit by a car after landing a [ __ ] handrail trick the options are endless of ways to get hurt so in my
20:39
case I got 16 Staples in the head broken tailbone eight broken ribs four broken ribs three broken feet two broken feet
20:45
15 broken wrist bloky clavicle and um I've knocked myself out a baker's dozen
20:51
of time yeah absolutely that's that's some wild [ __ ] man I mean it's uh you
Bam’s Stunts and His Mindset as a Skater/Stuntman
20:56
the intensity of that and you went harder than anybody uh you know pretty much in that what's what do you think's
21:01
like the the wildest thing you've done back in the the jackass days was it on jackass or what what's what's the what's
21:07
the craziest thing you've done I guess the most proud thing that I've ever done was the loop on a
21:14
skateboard because I was the 12th person to ever do it and um I was never really
21:19
a vert skater which is the type of skateboarder that would even try that to begin with I mean there's so many Pros
21:25
out there that have still chickened out to try it and it took me three years to do it cuz the first time they built it
21:32
was in Orlando and we were filming for Jackass so we had Matt Hoffman and Tony Hawk show up and Tony Hawk is already he
21:38
was the first one and only one to land at at this point so I tried it and I was
21:44
Landing in a foam pit and I kept doing it to the point where I could tape the mat away and then try it but of course I
21:49
[ __ ] looped around like Brian schaer knocked myself out and then um went back
21:54
for round two a year later at um Burnquist house and then cuz he built
22:01
one too and and this dude Bob is so good at the Loop that he was he his phone was
22:09
ringing at the bottom and he was at the top where you rolling to do the loop and he's like who is it and I read who it
22:14
was and he was like oh it's somebody important I got to answer that so instead of sliding down which he was contemplating doing he's like ah [ __ ] it
22:20
he just drops in switch with a video camera in his hand does the loop and then answers the phone I'm like you got
22:25
to be kidding me that should be the closing of your video part just cuz that was so off the cuff and incredible yeah
22:32
I me he had it down but I mean you said you're the 14th person yeah the the 12th or 13th it was me and Jason Ellis who
22:40
roughly did at the same time so we tend to argue about it but then I showed up in Phoenix Arizona to Tony Hawk boom
22:46
boom Hawk jam and um everybody has given me all this crazy advice of what to do D
22:52
D D D Bob bernist made it so simple he goes as soon as you roll in don't even
22:57
pump just let it take you where it takes you as soon as you hit the transition of the loop lock your knees stare at 12:00
23:04
and follow the stickers cuz there's sticker line that goes like that so as I said okay lock my knees look at 12:00 as
23:11
soon as I dropped in I did it first [ __ ] try awesome so that's all you need to know if you have the balls to
23:18
try it that's all you need to know lock your knes stare at 12:00 follow stickers it's not a backflip it's more like a
23:25
pause what's it what's it like like going into I'll call it stunts like that or you
23:31
trying tricks like that the mindset before like yeah are you like oh [ __ ] oh
23:36
[ __ ] you know you got I gotta go like what's what is that like what's playing through your mind as you're thinking
23:42
about doing something like that like for me whenever I was doing something gnarly that I knew would get the cover of trans
23:47
world or Thrasher or even the ending of my video part I would stare it like
23:53
months ahead of time and like prepare myself of when is the day I'm going to try it Y and I
24:00
know that's that's why it's so rewarding when you finally do it just because it's been mapped out for so long it's been a
24:07
long-term goal but man these days I think skaters are just so used to
24:12
jumping on handrails and jumping down gaps if they just do it for breakfast they show up to a spot they see it and
24:18
they say it's now or never because you know here I am in Nashville Tennessee
24:25
and if I find a rail today well I'm leaving to Texas tomorrow so chances of me being back here are going to be years
24:31
or never so I have to do it now and and that's been the case lately like I grew
24:36
up when watching skaters salmon of go switch alied over a fire hydrant and I
24:42
was so impressed that it was backwards I'm like he doesn't even skate that way he skate goofy he did it regular what
24:48
now they just do switch treay flips down 10 stairs like it's nothing these days it's almost like playing the Tony Hawk
24:54
video game and knowing that these tricks don't exist but if you're little kid thinking that they do then maybe you can
25:01
make it come to reality because that's kind of what's Happening yeah it's it's pretty well I've seen these manual
25:06
combinations that are from the Tony Hawk game that are happening at the skate park right now wow blowing my mind it's
25:13
like the 4minute mile you know nobody thought it could be done and then once it got done you know a lot of people started hitting that and you know the
25:19
mind is such an underrated thing when it comes to you know Athletics and sports actually anything success in life like
25:27
you're talking about visualizing months ahead of time you know that's that's exercise that's exercising your brain
25:32
going over and over we we talked to you know cancer patients and the cancer patients their doctors like oh don't
25:38
worry about your diet oh you don't have to worry about your mind oh do it's like no no focus on what needs to be done to
25:45
have the best ability or potential to heal yeah and um you know I I think it's
25:51
an underrated thing so like your mind because you're seeing these kids now and it's still impressive I mean it's very
25:56
impressive everything everything they're doing but you know you're kind of like a Pioneer with the really really crazy [ __ ] you you're going hard hard in the
26:03
paint and so yeah I just wondered like what's it like how do you get the balls to actually like even um you know 30
26:10
seconds before you're like I'm going to do are you hyping yourself up like what what's going um I think
26:16
I you just think about how like um you know at this point I was already the
26:22
first skater to ride for Nike I just got sponsored by element audio shoes just picked me up when Tony Hawk and uh all
26:29
these neat things were happening I just knew that you know I said a trick a day
26:35
keeps the team manager away which is true look I got a trick today leave me alone cuz it's if if you don't skate for
26:42
like a week or you have no tricks to provide to the team manager you might get booted or you might not be Pro or
26:49
somebody might be replace you in the line of becoming Pro you know like this
26:54
dude's been ripping harder than you I know that you were next in line but he's going over you because you're not trying hard enough so that would be the
27:01
motivation that would be the motivation now when it comes to jackass you're allowed and it's
27:07
recommended to sip on a little shot of Crown Royal if you're going to get into a wheelbarrow get pushed off a
27:13
three-story roof into a [ __ ] pricker Bush because it's a first try thing you're going to get the shot first try
27:18
you just have the courage to do it and you know having a couple beer muscles helps but it does not help on a
27:25
skateboard because if you drink more than two beers you are not balance it on a [ __ ] handrail for [ __ ] right right
27:30
right yeah so the liquid courage for the jackass stuff but uh but now it's a
27:36
whole different story when you're 44 because in Jackass 2 when I was 25 I got
27:42
high-fived for being drunk at the LAX airport with brass knuckles in my bag
27:47
because Island Def Jam just signed my brother to the label and they gave me a diamond gift that's at Island de jam on
27:54
brass knuckles didn't think anything of it chucked them in a pink bag with my iPod and I'm going through the airport
28:00
on Friday night drunk they're like you have brass knuckles in the airport I'm like yeah what of it they're like that's
28:05
illegal the state of California I'm like well I'm from the state of Pennsylvania how the hell am I supposed to do that they're like have you been drinking I'm
28:11
like can't say that I haven't I'm like look they're $2,000 bran Knuckles just keep them cuz I got to get to
28:16
Philadelphia they're like you ain't going nowhere except jail so because the movie was coming out and I'm all over
28:22
the news they're high-fiving me for good press now I'm drunk out in front of a um
28:28
hotel in Santa Monica and it was on TMZ and they consider me a liability now mhm
28:34
but a 25 high five good press BR Knuckles drunken Wast at the airport 44
28:39
liability doesn't make sense Hypocrites yeah well I mean a lot of it is you know different eras too I mean you know it's
28:46
kind of like the 2000s kind of like a rockstar era um where you know that that
28:52
type of stuff was was praised now they're just looking for reasons to cancel people and you know maybe it
28:59
wasn't right uh you them celebrating that back in the day you know and now uh
29:05
you know saying it's a liability but maybe they realize too that hey you know we can't build a you know oranization
29:12
way is what made me or help make me stop was um well you know like when I got out
29:20
I was so bitter to begin with of just getting suckered in and and sabotaged of
29:25
a hey do you want to go to dinner at your favorite restaurant yeah sure I'll meet you all you guys there and it's just a Sabo of an intervention forcing
29:32
me to go to treatment so when I get out I'm already I already know that alcohol is banned it's not any good well what
29:38
are you going to do when you get out I'm going to sip on a [ __ ] white claw why because [ __ ] all y'all so have you talked to like you have you talked to
29:44
any of those people no I don't want to you want to never again except for steo but I don't really want to talk to
29:51
anybody right now just because I'm I really I've had such a big bubble for Viva leam that like I let so many
29:58
friends until my bubble just popped I didn't even know to answer the phone for who's important anymore just because I
30:04
would give my phone number out to anybody who came in my path and cracked a joke and made me laugh yeah now I got
30:10
Mr joke cracker at midnight at the Blarney Stone call me up trying to tell me more funny jokes and I'm missing
30:16
Danny Way and the Shaman's phone call you know so now I have a very tight bubble I would prefer to St spend my
30:23
whole day with Danny and the two dogs and call it a day unless we're in a new town and I haven't seen an old buddy for
30:29
a while unless it's a new skate friend that wants me to skate with yeah you it's hard I mean and I can't imagine at
30:37
your level but you know when you do get famous um all the people that are
30:44
constantly wanting you know uh to contact you and to text and to you know
30:49
keep up and it's like you know it's impossible it's it'd be impossible for you to actually you know uh respond to
30:56
everyone and like I honestly my entire addict at Castle bam is just filled with
31:02
fan mail and my grandpa was trying to answer as much of it as he could on his spare time but he passed but he's like
31:09
what are you going to do with all this family I'm like there's so much I don't know what to do with it but I've been signing autograph since I was 12 years
31:15
old so when I'm just so used to it and it doesn't bug me I could be at a nice
31:21
fancy dinner and somebody could interrupt me with a piece of [ __ ] steak hanging out my mouth and I would still be happy to take a photo the only
31:27
time time I don't like it is when I'm at a skate park because if one kid comes then they all come and they all want a
31:34
photo and autograph and then to talk to their Budd on the phone because they don't believe I'm there so if I say yes
31:39
I don't even break a sweat skating and if I say no then I'm a [ __ ] no in situation yeah it's a no in situation
31:45
maybe I have a t-shirt that says we'll sign and take photos after my sesh thank you yeah well I mean that's reasonable
31:52
though that's reasonable I mean that's the hard part is is people don't realize that you're you know let's say they're
31:57
fan but they don't realize that you're just another dude that's hey I want to get my skating in or you know if I were on the
32:03
mat and people were trying to talk to me constantly hey I'm just trying to train then we'll we'll chat afterwards so
32:09
picture you know if you're on your 20th try trying to skate trick you're already frustrated so there I am trying to land
32:14
it I got Daddy taking photos I got another cameraman another camera and I'm like oh [ __ ] next one next one all right
32:20
next one God damn our next one this lady just comes up and she's like hey would you mind walking down to the car with me
32:27
because I got this guitar I wanted you to sign my daughter really wants you I'm like really are you can't you say that
32:34
I'm in the middle of something what the how can you not read this one out like
32:40
I'm I'm yelling the f word and I'm trying my hardest to land this now once
32:46
I landed I'm like hip hipay please come up because I'd be more than obliged to
32:51
sign your guitar yeah no there's uh there's timing for
32:57
everything timing is everything timing is everything you know I mean and that was bad timing on her end yeah so I hear
33:05
you've been reading a lot too yeah man because you know like I said I always
Dealing with Fame, Reading, New Hobbies
33:11
had an Entourage with me and even at home you know the Entourage would still be there so there's never a peaceful
33:18
time to read even at the airplane I can't read if I'm alone because I'm constantly hearing flight to Milwaukee
33:24
is at 6:00 followed by Dallas Fort where I can't I can't so um you know Danny's
33:31
doing her thing whether it's cooking or you know being with the dogs are handling business I'm out reading and
33:37
I'm there's so many books that I've wanted to read just never found the time and now we got a cabin up in the woods
33:44
on the border of Kentucky with uh yellow Wolf's manager ounce and uh just been
33:49
reading out in the woods and um you know just cuz I got bookworm on my my
33:55
Knuckles Follow by my credit card in how long were you out there with ounce
34:00
um about 3 days that's awesome yeah I love that guy yeah he's a he's a good dude he uh he's got a great story too a
34:08
lot of perseverance you know a lot of overcoming adversity um you know you're talking earlier about you know basically
34:15
people seeing your life as an inspiration that they can overcome anything to come back yeah uh you know
34:23
what's what's that like you know knowing all the things that you've been through
34:28
but you know like I said earlier heads out of a cloud but you know moving forward are you nervous about slipping
34:34
up are you very conscious and are you really no I'm not
34:39
because every time I got out of treatment I already knew that I was going to go right back to it and I already knew that I wanted to do it
34:47
knowing that it's bad because I didn't have any reason to not now did I have
34:52
skating back I don't want to screw that up I don't want to screw up my relationship with Danny because if if if
34:57
I even relapse once my dick will be chopped off it'll be thrown in the river and she'll be long gone don't need that
35:03
and for the sake of my son Phoenix who's 6 years old yeah he's the main reason but I mean when when when it's a custody
35:11
battle and I'm not allowed to see him that it forces somebody to drink it's like what do you want to do today I want
35:17
to see my son but chances are I'm not because I'm 3,000 miles away and even if they said I could I wouldn't get there
35:24
on time so what am I going to do today drink so yeah but you are putting things in place for
35:29
instance like you're reading a lot what what's this thing with you're doing uh like studying astrology too yeah I mean
35:36
I'm just I'm just into um you know all kind the astrology and U crystals gems
35:41
and um just Shamanism in general and even you know Green witchery which is
35:47
like dealing with herbs yeah yeah the uh you know the the
35:54
shaman stuff has gotten pretty big you know it's starting to come around have you ever done something like iwasa or
35:59
yes well Navid my Shaman he's my best friend he's Persian and he lives in Escondido California but this dude has
36:07
an answer for everything he's a [ __ ] wizard and he cannot talk bad about
36:12
anybody you could be his best friend and and then you just start stabbing him in the back and he has 10 seconds to live
36:19
he would turn around and be like I love you why me I'd be my best friend's you
36:24
know what you're dead you son of a [ __ ] no he be I love you why and he does not look like he can fight and he does not
36:31
believe in violence one bit but he's like I could break your leg in One go I I show you 2% I'm like all right 2% he's
36:37
like boom I'm like he's like that's just 2% I'm like I don't want to see five or God forbid 10
36:45
that hurt yeah absolutely you know and um he'll just have these zingers you
36:51
know I'll ask him a question about something and and if I'm not ready to know it yet he like you hang out with me
36:57
for or we be together for longer I let you know but right now unearned wisdom is poison yeah like you I can't just
37:05
tell you like it's unearned wisdom you you can't you can't start doing a kick
37:10
flip if you've never even stepped on a skateboard before you got to learn how to push in Oli first no unearned wisdom is poison where where is this guy at
37:18
he's an Escondido okay yeah he's the best he he uh when I showed up I was 250
37:24
lbs he would hike me 8 Miles up a mountain every single day at 5:00 a.m. and if it was 5:01 it ain't happening it
37:32
was 4:59 he's still on time 5:00 boom boom boom let's go gnarly that's awesome
37:38
love it like not even a minute off what was your experience like like with iasa do you have any or what he does these
37:45
10-hour ceremonies and I've done about seven with him and uh he first of all
37:51
it's harala it's like this he mixes it with honey it's like a paste you take that and then he play some like mainly
37:58
Arabic music then you take three mushrooms don't know the milligrams and then after that you do shasa and then
38:05
this thing called combo which is an Amazonian frog that he burns about five holes in your skin and puts the oil in
38:12
the skin your face puffs up like a big red football and you barf out every tar and tox and known to man in about 20
38:19
minutes you your face you look ridiculous but in about 20 minutes it all goes away and you feel like a
38:25
million bucks it's something that would take you know a month for or two for
38:31
anybody to detox going to a G&C or seeing a doctor this this combo [ __ ] it
38:37
it's a 20 minute thing that would take anybody else months to get all that [ __ ] out yeah I've heard it's uh painful for
38:44
that you know yeah I mean what's pain anymore you know right the only pain
38:49
that I get now is when people hurt my [ __ ] feelings sticks and stones break people's bones and names hurt me that's
38:56
right hey that's that's uh that's human man yeah you know I mean [ __ ] that's
39:02
check this out so I don't know why I'm thinking about this but my neighbor Mark Hannah when I was growing up whenever he
39:09
would do something wrong his dad would beat him with a belt or just give him a riot act for like an hour so he did
39:15
something real wrong and he's like oh dude I'm going to get the ride act for an hour and I'm going to get beat with
39:20
about this terrible his dad walks in he's ready for it and his dad was so disappointed he said that this even hurt
39:27
worse cuz he just looks him up and down he goes and walks off he's like I'm like so
39:34
did you get beat did you get get a RI no he just looked me up and down and said that hurt way [ __ ] worse like you're
39:41
just so disappointed in your son it's just like it's not even worth it it's just it's not even worth it yeah yeah oh
39:48
absolutely I mean that's that's that's what drives a lot of people man you know it's it's disappointment we don't want
39:53
to feel like we're disappointing people I don't I can tell you that like even the the call back thing we were talking about I feel bad when I can't respond to
40:00
everybody that's texting me yeah I'm like damn because you know you like I love all my friends and all the people
40:06
I've known for a long time but there's only so many hours in a day and it's hard to keep up with all the conversations it is and you know that's
40:13
other thing you know you think 20 years ago we didn't have we had cell phones but we weren't texting each other constantly you it wasn't like that and
40:20
you know Danny and I figured out that like having the cell phone constantly
40:25
it's like it it really inter interupts the flow of everything we were sitting at a nice dinner like a Ruth Chris
40:30
Steakhouse dinner there was a family of eight sitting right next to us and for 30 minutes we both realized that nobody
40:38
even talked to anybody they're all just on their phones doing whatever they're doing and it's like if we're we've been
40:45
on a road trip all across America on this great adventure and you know if she's on the phone and is I'm trying to
40:51
jam the music no turn your [ __ ] phone away we're listening to the same song looking at the same scenery doing the
40:56
same thing and that's what makes it fun yeah no I mean we've lost we we become
41:02
less connected uh by being more connected to our phones you know with everybody it's like it's even weird for
41:08
me to see my parents they're like 70 73 uh seeing them with their cell phones
41:14
out you know on it like goly that's wild you man like I I feel like you know if
41:20
you constantly have your phone and you could play video games all day like you're never going to be forced to you
41:27
know grab a piece of paper and start becoming a really great artist or something if you always have your
41:32
Nintendo game in your pocket then you're never going to be forced to deal with that boredom and if this was the only if
41:39
I was in jail for 37 hours and I'm in a white room and there's absolutely
41:44
nothing to do at all except read that book you know damn well eventually I'm going to pick it up and just start
41:50
reading whether it's it's the worst book ever I'm going to read it so you know
41:55
nobody reads anymore nobody everybody's just like oh I'm bored video games yeah and it's it's used to to pacify the kids
42:02
too hell yeah it's like here's here's an iPad honey oh well Billy's whining over there just shoving ice cream down his
42:08
throat and give him a joystick exactly yeah that's a that's a a weird thing and
42:14
now like you know back in the day um you know we used to have like get tapes you
42:20
know and it's like you know your old like skate tapes and uh we had used to have fight tapes my buddy Scotty owns uh
42:26
or owned a company called otm and he was one of the first people to go to Brazil and film Brazilian jiu-jitsu uh you know
42:33
live back in the day yeah and um you know he used to sell these sell these tapes you know and it's like oh get to
42:38
watch the Jiu-Jitsu on the tape it was a big deal yeah um probably like that with skateboarding too you get to get a hold of the tape 100% like oh [ __ ] we got
42:46
tape is in yeah exactly let's play it now it's like oh I did somebody's Tre flip the love Gap oh yeah it's on
42:53
Instagram already it happened 12 not even 12 minutes ago it's already on for all to see no I loved waiting a year for
43:00
the video part to come out it was so exciting because you get this video you're like oh [ __ ] turn it in you're
43:05
like go you watch it multiple times you know over and over and over again and you know that's where you now we get the
43:11
instant gratification where it's on YouTube it's on Instagram you know you see it immediately so it almost loses
43:18
its uh you know in many ways the excitement of of what just happened or what they were doing you know yeah yeah
Fighting a UFC fighter, Chuck Liddell on Jackass
43:25
so um I don't know if you know who uh there was a UFC fighter in Adelaide Australia
43:32
this was back in probably 2011 I'm drunk coming out of a bar in
43:37
Adelaide it's college town so it's very crowded 2 a.m. I got a beanie on with like a cowboy hat and I'm coming out and
43:44
I just hear somebody said nice Double Hat [ __ ] or something like that I didn't even look to see who it was but I
43:49
coughed up the biggest L had spit it right into his face I didn't know it was a UFC fighter I didn't know he was the
43:56
number one champion boom he knocks me out and the camera is saying that I was out for 7 minutes I wake up and
44:02
everybody's fighting everybody so I'm so discombobulate I run over and I start punching you and you're like dude I'm on
44:07
your team I'm like oh you are well let's [ __ ] him up we start punching other people gunshots rung out next day the
44:14
news found out that I got knocked out by a UFC fighter like Ben what would you say to him now like thinking I'd be all
44:19
man I'm like I want to thank him very much last night I slept like a rock thank you slept good but I I believe his
44:26
name was um Paul Paul Fleming and he was number one
44:34
UFC fighter of lightweight in in um Australia gotcha gotcha gotcha yeah man
44:40
you never know who oh that's good you never know who you pick a fight with you know especially these days some guys are
44:46
doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu they they're trading MMA and yeah you know and you can't fight nowadays like you used to
44:53
like I used to love to fight like not in a bad way where I was trying to Hur hurt people away but you know that was like
44:58
that was you know my whole life you know what like like I took Taekwondo when I was younger for a lot of years and I
45:04
became a brown Bel um and I I realized that there's a lot of tactics that they
45:10
teach you but in a real street fight like I feel like I'm not going to be waiting to block your kick or block
45:16
anything as a matter of fact I'm just going to hockey fight you until you knock me out or I knock you out yeah you
45:22
know like I'm not going to do any of that I'm just going to go for the throat yeah I mean you know that's the best way
45:29
if you're not extremely trained you know you get be as brutal as you can as fast as you can it's danger energy just give
45:36
it all up until you're going down yeah no no doubt about it and a lot of the old taekwondo too it wasn't there's like
45:43
really solid Taekwondo and then there's kind of like the the the weaker sport type so some of that stuff's pretty
45:49
those guys out of Korea were some vicious dudes yeah but um you know back in the day like 9394 the first UFC's
45:57
were coming out and so like when when I was growing up my parents didn't have a ton of money so we would uh I would I
46:03
would go through the Yellow Pages they they couldn't afford the the martial arts lessons so I'd go through the Yellow Pages and I I'd call the
46:10
different schools Karate Kung like hey could you beat up this guy I just wanted to know like who could win and a fight
46:15
if you were to fight him they're like what I'm like yeah I'm just is your kung fu better than that karate and so when the UFC came out I was like oh [ __ ]
46:21
we're about to see what it is you know all these different styles and then um you know the first year UFC hoist Gracie
46:27
comes out and it's Brazilian jiu-jitsu like oh W yeah he was the man he was like the Tyson of he won every fight as
46:35
far as I can remember and then we filmed with jackass Chuck Liddell came up I had the pleasure of getting punched as hard
46:42
as he could into my stomach and hurt like a su [ __ ] how did you do did it drop you he dropped me and I had the
46:49
wind knocked out of me for a little while yeah yeah I I felt I was feeling pretty brave that day D Liddell was a
46:56
bad dude I used to love his his style was really interesting because you couldn't um you
47:02
couldn't charge him he would want you to come at him and he created these amazing angles to throw these punches and he was
47:08
just you know smoking and knocking people out the only time I remember actually him knocking somebody out going forward was a guy named babalo where he
47:14
was just blasting away then threw the switch kick that was pretty incredible but you know for the most part he was a
47:20
great counter puncher and then as his career went on he started to lose his
47:25
chin because he'd been in some Wars and you know you start the older you get the more you get hit in in the jaw you you
47:30
can't take the same punch as you you used to but uh he's one of my favorite fighters ever I I gotta say man I got to
47:37
give it up to Conor McGregor because he talks so much [ __ ] that it makes me tune
47:44
in when if if I have something else going on like man I'm going skating today and I'm going to do this uhuh this
47:50
dude has talked so much [ __ ] that I have to watch this now whether he wins or loses he has got me SOC excited to come
47:58
out and watch this because he's just a Non-Stop [ __ ] talk oh you have no idea
48:03
you hop into a I so F man if he loses it's going to
48:08
look real bad but you know what no because I'm so excited to see this now you have hyped it up that good hip hip
48:15
aray for you yeah now Conor changed the game with that man he completely changed the game he took it to a you know just
48:22
New Heights and still he can still come back to the UFC you know I don't know how how good he is anymore um in the
48:28
sense that he's a great fighter but like you know if you're not training all the time year round and you got all these
48:33
killers that that's all they're doing and you know you're off for six months kind of you know doing movies or whatever else he's doing um you you're
48:40
not going to be keeping up that super super high level uh and you can go back and still be a high level fighter but
48:46
it's like to to be at that tip top I mean this guy Conor's fighting like Killers now like so it looks people like
48:53
oh well you know he doesn't seem like he's he's doing as good as he used to he's like well he used to do nothing but train right and now he's you know living
49:01
his best life on when he's when he's not training yeah off the coach of Spain I hear he there a lot but when he broke
49:07
his leg um did he fully recover from that my understanding is yes cool my
49:13
understanding is yes he's talked about uh I believe like running for president in Ireland they were they were throwing
49:18
some crazy laws out there kind of McGregor stepped up and said hey you know this is uh you know we're going to
49:25
take back our country they were good for yeah I mean that would be crazy president McGregor yeah I mean you know
49:31
what he Bano is so loved in in Ireland I feel like whatever he decided to do or
49:37
say you know he could win over the people yeah you know as as long as you
49:43
you know are if you have a good idea and you're well known and people follow you you never know I mean [ __ ] Kanye tried
49:49
to run for president don't know if his bipolar ass just like me I'm bipolar as [ __ ] apparently but yeah him running for
49:56
president he'd be all over the place yeah he he would be an interesting president all over the place but you know like a lot of these guys like you
50:03
know Trump was a populist candidate um and you know has uh you know I we don't to get into what we think of him but you
50:10
know the the popularity obviously helped yeah and so somebody like Connor you know if if you can get in that position
50:17
and you're actually trying to do what's right what's best for the people yeah you know that could be the best type of
50:22
president or the best type of leader for sure because we're all whining people that we can trust and say you know what I trust a guy hey you might screw things
50:28
up but we know you're doing your best we know that you're not crooked you're not taking Bri you're not doing those type of things and um I think that's what
50:34
we're all kind of longing for right now yeah and a lot of people want to embezzle or pocket some money or take
50:39
some [ __ ] by the side that [ __ ] has so much money that all he wants to do is fix the country right he's not
50:45
trying to pocket anything he's not trying to [ __ ] no that's a great idea if his idea is good yeah no that's
50:51
that's that's the thing and um you know it'd be interesting because of the internet and because of the connection that we're talking about with the phones
50:58
um you know people can get pretty famous fast they got a you know one viral video and now they're well technology has gone
51:04
for shirk are you following this AI stuff at all like all no but oun and I was asking it the craziest question but
51:12
but um uh no as a matter of fact when when a stripper stole my cell phone uh I
51:18
guess I don't even remember the codes to any of my Apple ID passwords or any of that so I don't have Instagram I don't
51:26
have Spotify I don't have the internet I I have to use somebody else's phone for that it's kind of nice it is it's kind
51:33
of nice I realize that I don't hate it I'm like you know what everybody's always on their phone I like to just
51:39
live the moment and you know right now if I had my phone i' be oh one one
51:45
second I'm going to answer my buddy no stop interrupting the flow of everybody else's day and put your [ __ ] phone
51:51
down yeah man well you know it's it's weird I hopefully we'll have like a Renaissance because it's you know it's
51:58
getting to a point with the phones uh most of us I can tell you me I'm addicted I'm like on my phone and you
52:04
know it's easy to just scroll mindlessly yeah and I noticed my memory not being as sharp as it was and I was like huh I
52:11
got to really watch this because you know what is that doing you know is it programming our brains to think a
52:17
certain way am I living in an echo chamber where it's only My Views that is the right views and it makes everybody
52:22
else wrong you know what's happening right now with this uh you know W with the messaging that's coming into me well
Bam in North Korea, Favorite Places to Travel
52:30
I'm not saying this is any good but check this out so Kim Jong-il North Korea found out
52:37
that he likes sports cars so I Shi my purple Lamborghini to Pyongyang just to see what the hell is going on a few
52:44
other um dudes from the Gumball Rally ship their Lamborghinis too or Ferraris whatever and um so is what happened was
52:51
we land at the airport with the plane with the cars in the plane they we put it all lined out so he could take a look
52:58
at him now we can't drive him through town or anything we cannot let have him leave the airport but we all Deport our
53:04
cell phones in a locker because when we go into town he did not want any of the people seeing the devices that were on
53:11
right he wanted to live in the 50s or 40s whatever they're at yeah but man we
53:16
hopped into a bus they took us to the pretty much one and only hotel that was
53:22
somewhat nice and I was allowed to bring my skateboard so these people were like
53:29
who in the [ __ ] is this tattooed white dude on four wheels with a piece of wood
53:34
allying over plants on the way down the street their their mind was already boggled like they could they thought
53:41
that I was from the future then when 6 o00 happens picture a city nearly as big
53:48
as Nashville all the power goes out at 6:00 at night it looks like zombie Ville
53:54
very spooky and scary just just a dim dim dim generator light in the hallways of the hotel so you can see but other
54:01
than that there's no street lights there it's just black very scary wow but um
54:07
I'm glad that I went do I want to go back don't think so but man they only have one TV channel and it's whatever
54:13
Kim Jong-il wants them to watch really did you uh uh get to meet him I sat on
54:19
on the same like table as them but I never like kicked it it was just like a whole big long table that that I was s
54:27
with him at w when when did you uh go this was I'm going to say like 2010 2010 yeah
54:36
it was the gumball around the world in eight days so um there there was quite a
54:42
few of us that went yeah that's before that's before Trump you know a lot of people no wonder my interventionalist
54:48
probably checked me off as schizophrenic because I would be telling these stories of R this guy saying he took his purple
54:55
Lamborghini to p Yang North Korea to hang out with Kim Jong Hill and then Billy Idol cut the roof off of it and
55:00
Iggy Pop played his wedding this guy is such a schizophrenic he probably don't even own lamb you know what I mean like
55:06
cuz maybe he didn't do the research to find out that it's all true you can just
55:11
type it on the interweb and see for yourself wow that's wild so did you go anywhere else with your Lamborghini was
55:18
it was it just there where did you I I started in Philly put it on a boat to London where it started then we drove
55:24
from London through Brussels Paris then Vienna then Budapest put it
55:30
on a plane no we drove from Budapest to Serbia beograd put it on a plane to puket Thailand drove it to Bangkok
55:38
stopped and supported Japan then pyung Yang North Korea then anchored Alaska to
55:43
get some gas Salt Lake City Vegas car broke down there got it to California
55:49
shipped it to Detroit and drove to Pennsylvania wow [ __ ] up all all over
55:56
what's you know a lot of driving yeah a lot of driving yeah a whole lot of driving so how was it well it was
56:04
definitely a lot of driving yeah exactly I got a ticket going 167 miles
56:10
hour in France oh wow they're like what did they say you know why we pulled you over yeah I was speeding speeding
56:17
Reckless and dangerman not wearing a seat belt passing people in the shoulder of an intersection oh that was a
56:23
shoulder I just thought it was part of the highway license registration please I pull it out I have gum stuck to it
56:29
then they're like look your ass of the car is like hanging out can you go reverse and put I'm like no I can't
56:35
because some dick had ripped out my clutch doing a donut behind my back when they were loading it up it was these
56:41
jackass dudes called Dirty Sanchez from England that they were pulling a prank on me so they ripped out the clutch it
56:47
wouldn't go in reverse first or second gear so they're like you need to back your car up I'm like car reverse none it
56:54
ain't going to happen they're like what do you mean to tell Go reverse every car has reverse I'm like well this one doesn't and it's been across the world
57:00
in 8 days and this thing is [ __ ] yeah it's been in eight countries yeah yeah
57:05
that's wild man what was your favorite place uh that you you've ever traveled to well landscape wise and just peaceful
57:14
wise I would say Norway there's a place called Pulpit Rock that's a three-hour hike to get up and it's just Cliff that
57:21
just drops off the face of the earth a couple thousand feet and you could see fordge for ages very awesome then
57:28
there's another one called troll Tonga which is a 12-hour hike so if you're not going to leave at 5:00 a.m. to get
57:34
started then you're going to have to camp out at night but you'll be driving down the road you'll cut a left and see
57:40
a giant waterfall it's just no big deal to have there's so many waterfalls there that most of them don't even have names
57:45
you know you like around here you got a 20 foot waterfall over there they're naming that [ __ ] let's go check out
57:51
whatever Falls there's just 100 foot waterfalls in Norway that they don't there's just too many so landscape wise
57:58
there or Iceland and New Zealand's very pretty but you know um Helsinki Finland
58:04
for the rock and roll bands and um Barcelona or Spain in general for
58:11
skateboarding because everything is made of marble and they consider it an art form to scratch up The Ledges so they
58:17
don't throw you out you don't have to run through any police or any security and um you know it really I lived there
58:24
for two years went to every single City and spot I know where everything is and
58:29
when I got back to Philadelphia I was so prissy about everything yo bam you want to go skating no because there's a crack
58:35
right there and it's made of bricks and it's not marble like Spain you know I got so
58:40
prissy do you uh you know do you look back like when you were a kid did you think that you're going to be going to
58:46
all these different countries did you ever imagine I I always knew that I wanted to it's funny because as soon as
58:52
I saw a skateboard I knew that that's exactly what I wanted to do I was I was
58:58
a pitcher for a baseball team in little league and I was really good at that but I didn't want to do it I didn't like the uniform I didn't like being a part of a
59:05
team uh and like you know if you're the goalie of a let's say a soccer te if you
59:11
miss the goal and you the team lost because of you I don't need that kind of
59:16
you know what do you call it like pressure no if I'm in a skate contest and whatever I place is whatever I am
59:23
and there's no team saying hip hipay you suck that's why it's a oneman sport you
59:29
could dress and look however you want you can rock as much flare and and the
59:34
options are endless of what you could skate you could skate this [ __ ] couch right here you could skate the transition of that pool out there if
59:40
there was no water in it love it yeah so so you saw it so you you thought okay
59:46
I'm going to be going yeah you know around the world well um this dude was pushing down the street at my school bus
59:52
stop when I was in first grade and uh he just had this Thrasher hip kit with this
59:58
like suspenders like Steve cavalero and this crazy Gear with cool looking grip tape and he's hauling ass and he just
1:00:05
alies like over this manhole cover and just kept pushing I was like that was
1:00:10
awesome so then I looked up skateboarding and it was um Tony Hawk in a contest in it was called The Savannah
1:00:18
Slama in Georgia and um you know dressing with all the top dogs were
1:00:23
there and uh I was just so mesmerized by it I would wake up skate before school
1:00:30
get home skate until the sun went down skate skate skate all day long and I
Bam’s Destiny as a Skateboarder, The Habits that Made Him a Star, Helping Others
1:00:36
knew that here the thing about me is I never had a plan B I was going to be a pro skater or I was going to be a stunt
1:00:42
man or both either way I knew I wanted to be on TV as a pro skateboard or some kind of funny stunt man and that's how
1:00:50
CKY and Big Brother created jackass but um I didn't have a plan B so when I quit
1:00:56
school the first day of 10th grade the guidance counselor was like so you're quitting school to become a professional
1:01:02
skateboard I'm like yep and they're like do you think that and you think that that's going to work I'm like yeah I know it's going to work like how do you
1:01:07
know it's going to work I'm like because I'm going right to California and I already just got sponsored by Nike first
1:01:13
one ever get sponsored one of the first Remy Stratton and then um from there I was already on toy machine from there I
1:01:20
got on element audio shoes Spitfire Wheels Thunder Trucks the list goes on
1:01:25
and uh I came back three months later with a red Ferrari in the driveway and
1:01:31
the the guidance counselor directs traffic at the end of the day so you know he's you going to stop and then he
1:01:36
sees this red fi farari and it's just me going that's funny just because he he
1:01:42
put me down he's like skateboarding is a fed and it's going to die down in two years and you don't know what you're
1:01:47
talking about and you're going to be back here in two years digging in the dumpster for a peach pit and I'm like no
1:01:53
I'm not because I have a plan a and I'm not going to stop until I get it or I'm dead cuz if you have a [ __ ] Plan B
1:02:00
then as soon as times get tough and you got to pay your rent or whatever it is then you fall back on Plan B all right
1:02:06
I'm going to get that 95 job after all then I'll do skateboarding on a part-time hopefully he'll still be sponsored no you got to skate skate
1:02:13
skate and shut the [ __ ] up and skate yeah that's right I that's that's that's the the key or skate is is that
1:02:20
consistent nonstop you have two things and I like to kind of think about about
1:02:26
what makes people successful and you visualize what you want yep and then
1:02:32
repetition you do it again and again and visualize that seems like what you've done you know throughout your your
1:02:38
career well that's what I would do when I was younger I I I would set a goal and
1:02:43
I would not stop until I got that and you know at one point I was outside of
1:02:50
my driveway at Castle bam and I'm looking at all these cars that I own I got a [ __ ] purple Lamborghini
1:02:55
Gallardo a blue convertible Mercy logo a [ __ ] DeLorean a 1929 oldfashioned
1:03:00
Mercedes an s55 AMG Mercedes two Hummers two Range Rovers a Porsche PanAm an Audi
1:03:07
R8 and I'm like I have no more wishes yeah I ran out of wishes so what do you
1:03:12
want to do now bam I want to [ __ ] party cuz who cares so I partied it up
1:03:18
and what I was doing is pretty much when somebody says yo man you're insane you're insane haha yeah I'm insane
1:03:24
whatever no what I was doing his Insanity because to wake up hung over knowing that if you drink a beer you're
1:03:31
going to feel better and then if you have another one you're going to feel even better and then if you have another one you're going to be drunk knowing that you're going to feel like [ __ ] the
1:03:37
next day and then you wake up feeling like [ __ ] oh I'm going to die but if I have a beer I'll feel better it's the hair of the dog cycle that I was in for
1:03:43
a [ __ ] decade which is called Insanity because I couldn't get out of
1:03:48
this cycle yeah once I got out of the cycle and I found structure which is what I needed cuz I would get out of the
1:03:54
cycle a lot forced to in treatment and then when I got out my boredom would
1:03:59
take over and then I'd see that Irish Pub across the street and i' be that looks like fun let's crack some more
1:04:05
jokes yeah absolutely well I mean you've overcome a lot man and uh you know your
1:04:12
story there's like so many different Heroes Journeys in your story and I know
1:04:18
it's inspired a lot of people and um you know you can do a lot of good for people
1:04:24
you know uh obviously Danny's helped you tremendously and hell yeah now I I just
1:04:30
we want to do a [ __ ] great adventure tour in an RV and just save the world or
1:04:37
what we can of it tour yeah so I go to skate parks I meet skaters we skate she
1:04:42
save we rescue dogs we start charity F we just just a road
1:04:50
trip having a blast yeah and and being outward focused yeah I mean I love the fact that like when people say oh that
1:04:56
person wouldn't hurt a fly like she literally would not hurt a fly you know like oh let me get this fly outside why
1:05:03
just kill it no never kill anything I'm going to put kill the fly
1:05:08
yeah the idea like you know when in doubt Focus out like if you're having a
1:05:14
bad day like how many times you feel bad going to feed the Homeless yeah you know how many time do you feel bad doing good
1:05:19
for others and being outward focused even the smallest thing like helping an old lady across the street makes you
1:05:25
feel good about yourself knowing that you did at least one thing good even though it was a small little thing at
1:05:31
least you did one thing good like the first time Danny started stretching me she'd pull my leg up she' be and one two
1:05:38
three good job and I'm like good job I did a good cool I did a good job what' you do today B well I did a good job
1:05:44
stretching today I guess I I kind of thought I just [ __ ] laid there but she said I did a good job my day is
1:05:50
already doing good yeah that's good those you know positive words of affirmation too you got to find like it
1:05:57
sounds like Danny's also kind of like a coach you know with with how she's she's getting you straight uh with your
1:06:02
stretching and your uh your schedule but you know that's a thing too is figuring out what makes people tick and you know
1:06:09
what motivates them and for you sounds like you like to help people maybe that's got you in trouble a lot because
1:06:16
you're so you got such a big heart um it's like you want to do everything for everyone but if it's in a structured way
1:06:22
that's also what can make you happy yeah you know and you know I've learned the hard way that money lent is money spent
1:06:29
there's been so many friends that I feel bad or I feel like I should help them out and they you know they can't pay
1:06:35
rent this month B I swear if you give me 20 grand I swear promise I'll pay you back no you
1:06:41
won't because if you don't have it now that probably means you never will and even if you did you're going to have it
1:06:48
in your hand and you're be holy [ __ ] I have 20 grand I could buy that neat used car that I always wanted or I could give
1:06:53
it to Bam like I was supposed to car bam used car [ __ ] him I'm buying a Ed car
1:06:59
you know exactly money land money spent fact yeah that's uh that's that is true
1:07:06
whenever I lend money I don't expect to get it back yeah and I don't care about feelings anymore before I did yeah yo
1:07:12
bab you think I could borrow like 30,000 [ __ ] you get out of my face never call
1:07:18
me again bye yeah don't have time [ __ ] out um so anything else I we got to
1:07:23
close this out anything You' want to say before before uh before you leave yes I want to
1:07:31
say cuz everybody always wants to plug I want to thank Black Rifle coffee for
1:07:36
helping me out yeah you just want to paycheck no I don't want to paycheck at all curiosity Donuts they're the best
1:07:42
donuts they're in doown they make them Super Fresh they're only open on Wednesdays because all the other days
1:07:48
they're closed because they're making the bread so fresh bam thanks for the for coming by
1:07:55
yeah rock and roll
